Dr. Fontenot is a board eligible anesthesiologist and Interventional Pain management physician. He is a native of the rural town of Eunice, Louisiana. He graduated cum lade from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and subsequently earned his medical degree at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans, LA. While in medical school, Dr. Fontenot enjoyed leadership activities and volunteering. Most notably, he served as the activity chairman of Camp Tiger, a summer day-camp for children with special needs in and around the city of New Orleans. In addition, he visited Haiti on two medical mission trips providing clinical and surgical care.
Following medical school, Dr. Fontenot completed his residency training in Anesthesiology at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans. He continued his leadership pursuits throughout residency while serving as the president of the Resident Fellows Association as well as a member of the Graduate Medical Education Committee and the Residency Quality Council. He also participated in clinical research presenting at both regional and national anesthesia and pain conferences and co-authored a book chapter on Intercostal Nerve Blocks. Through these ventures, he was chosen as the recipient of the Ochsner Clinical Presentation Award.
Dr. Fontenot then further specialized his training by completing an ACGME-accredited Interventional Pain Management fellowship at Ochsner Medical Center. During fellowship, he continued to partake in clinical research projects involving advanced treatment modalities for individuals with chronic intractable pain symptoms. His clinical interests include sciatica, degenerative disc disease, spinal stenosis, joint and muscle pain, post-herpetic neuralgia, diabetic nerve pain, chronic regional pain syndrome, and chronic post-surgical pain. He is an active member in the American Society of Anesthesiologists, American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine, North American Neuromodulation Society, and American Society of Pain Medicine.
As an interventional pain management specialist, Dr. Fontenot’s goal is to reduce, manage, and alleviate acute and chronic pain symptoms. He uses a multi-modal approach utilizing a combination of physical therapy, home exercise, medication, and minimally invasive outpatient interventions to improve a patient’s overall function, quality of life, and activities of daily living.
